brake seizing up

I need some help here. I have a handle that seems to be galling up and is starting to seize. It is on the left hand side of the brake and does not get as much use as the right so it was never much of an issue until now. I have taken it all apart and it seems like the large bolt is turning inside of the handle and galling. This does not seem right. I would expect the bolt and the handle to be one assembly and turn inside the large loop. I have attached a pic of the left side disassembled and a pic of the right side when its assembled as well as the back of the brake where the bolt is secured. Should the bolt turn freely? I noticed when I got the brake 10 years ago, there were holes in the large loop on each side. I tapped them and put grease zircs in there to keep the loop greased up. It seems like they were going to put a grease nipple there but never finished the job. Any one here have the same type of brake? Any comments would be helpful. I have a pile of folding to do and not much time to be mucking around with it.

Made a cupola top for a customer. The top was fairly easy, but I was more impressed by the customers work in building the frame. It was all welded with 14 ga. tubing and very well done. He then had it all power coated. This is just the top part of the gazebo which is also all welded tubing. Just this part pictured weighs close to 200 lbs. I can only imagine what the whole gazebo weighs. I will get a picture later of it installed. I used a Kynar 500 copper painted 24 ga. for the cover.

Our youngest son is graduating high school this year, so my wife is in party-planning mode. We've been looking for food ideas which won't take either a ton of money or prep time. We found this recipe and I made it today. It's simple and very good, even with a very mild (wife demand) BBQ sauce.

2 lb pork tenderloin -- I used boneless pork loin, basically the same thing
1 -- 12 0z can of root beer
1 -- 18 oz bottle of BBQ sauce

Put the pork in a crockpot. Pour the root beer over it. Cook on low for 6 to 7 hours, until it's done and shreds easily. Drain the cooking liquid then add the BBQ sauce.

I don't think it can get any easier. Now I need an easy recipe for cole slaw!

I was thinking about that Youtube spoof of the drunken guy on the scissor lift earlier today and then got thinking about how sometimes you have to use, shall we say, unorthodox methods to get the job done. You know what I mean: the kind of things that aren't appropriate public information, especially if an OSHA inspector is in the room.

Several years ago a friend and I were installing a retrofit explosion-proof fan above a lab. It was elliptical, about 200 pounds, and difficult to handle because of the shape. The only place to put it was above a lab bench/partition. The Genielift, even with extensions, couldn't get it exactly where it needed to go. The other side of the partition was an aisle. No room for the lift there. This was a Saturday and it was looking like we'd have to stand down and try to build a scaffold the next weekend, but that would mean that our newly installed hood wouldn't be running right all week. I was not happy. My father used to say "C'mon, boy---the devil hates a coward!" as in, at least try something. I think his theology was a little confused but the point was good. So, I went out to the truck and grabbed every bungee cord there. We trussed that fan up with probably a dozen of them and then swung it over to where we could get the first two rods on it. A little bouncy but it worked and we finished on time.

Anybody else have a story?

So you became a sheet metal worker. Somehow, through trade school or just placed in the position as we have seen here often to fill the empty space.

Do you still have a passion for the sheet metal industry or are you just in it until something better comes along?

Are you putting out all you got or are you just taking the ride?

Are you happy with the pay for what you are expected to do? Do you wish you worked in a union shop or wish maybe you didn't?

Do you have any regrets - maybe wishing you choose another trade?

Is your boss riding your ass or is the workload fair?

I'd be interested in hearing your story for those that care to share.
If you would rather not have your name attached to it here on the forums, email it to me with permission to post it here in this thread thesheetmetalshop@gmail.com and your name will not appear on it.
