I love the input we give and get on this site. My name is Dave and I've been a roofer for 20 years. I took to sheet metal pretty quickly and specialize in old style copper applications.
The "sup yawl" refers to my origins in Trenton, NJ but East Bum!@#$, NC location.
I learned sheet metal by using a combo of my common sense, uncanny sense of figuring crap out, and artistic talent to become a pretty well respected coppersmith with those I've worked around. No matter how long I've been doing this, I still listen to everyone's input because you never really know where the next great thing is gonna come from. I've got a book full of drawings as well as a few prototypes I've built for roofing and sheet metal tools to make my job easier as well as a few tools I've been forced to recreate because they just don't make them anymore. I've never been the kind of guy who holds back from his apprentices in an effort to keep my superiority, I could teach a guy everything I know today and still know more tomorrow because I never stop trying to learn something or better myself.
Nobody can ever know everything, even a know-it-all like myself. One day I'll figure out how to post photos and stuff online and share some of my work with you guys. Thanks to everyone for their input and if you ever stop caring about your workmanship its time to quit.
My favorite saying is one of my own which I tell every new guy I get on his first day. "Nobody's impressed by how fast you can !@#$ that up."
My favorite tool is the 22ga stainless edge scribe I made out of scrap metal
My favorite sport is hockey (GO FLYERS !!!!)
And the thing I hate most is blissful ignorance. You aren't happy. You're just too stubborn to accept that you're stupid.
Blessings from someone on everyone! (how's that for pc)
