Ajustable Air Extractors

Does anyone use air extractors at branch lines any more? I have heard that many in my area have stoped using them. Anyone have any news on this? I have not used them in a few years, its like engineers stoped using them. I have never balanced a system that had them in it. I could imagine it could be a pain.
