View Full Version : 90 Degree Elbow development - Insulation Industry

Hi all, i am currently working in the insulation industry, it has been a long time since my trade school days!

I am hoping someone can guide me, in the best way to develop a 90 degree elbow? (Lobster Back Bend)

I have downloaded all the info in the library, and this has helped, i have no problems developing a 90 degree bend, (Lobster Back) i am just looking for a faster way to develop it, that will incorperate the number of segments required, as well as insulation thicknesses

eg. An elbow with 350mm centre line radius, with 40mm Insulation?... How do i determine the number of segments required, and the most time efficient way to develop it?

Attached a simple Excel spreadsheet for working out the rise in Elbow heel and throat prior to determine the layout of any elbows with NPS of Diameter 1/2" ~ 42:.

You only have to the enter the following field.
(1) Insulation thickness
(2) No of Turn

Instantly you can quick answer regarding:
(1) Nos of template angles
(2) Height of heel
(3) Height of throat

You can refer to the other pdf file for what do we meant by 5 Turns, 7 Turns Or 9 Turns Elbow.

This time, I wish to share with member my CNC cutting plan for small diameter elbows with thicker insulation thickness.

In the cryogenic Insulation application, these types of elbows are common. The template layouts are more interesting.
