Hello all. I'm new to this forum. Been doing architectural sheet metal for about 20 years now. Mostly specialize in copper. Glad to find this place.
I was wondering if you guys know of any manufacturer that is producing a quality steel 4' ruler. Pexto used to make one, it was nice and thick. Thanks guys.
I'm setting up a new shop, so I'll be picking on the old timer's brains for info here. Thanks again. |

I purchased a Lufkin 48" circumference No. 95 about 4 years ago. I'm pretty sure i've seen some not to long ago in a catalogue at work , not to sure the name of the company selling them though. If its something your interested in I can try and dig it up for you? |

I've been in the industry for thirty years. Malco has always been the best steel layout ruler. The back side has a great circumference conversion. I have had mine for twenty years. If did get a little rusty, you just hit it with some light emory cloth and the numbers would come right back. With that being said, I am one of only three who responed to the poll that our shop used plasma cutting technology. Maybe I am out of the loop, but we still have a couple of Malcos in our shop.
Find ways to say yes. If you can't find ways to say yes, find a way not to say no. |

| No you're not quite out of the loop..On line polls have never been to popular on these forums, for one you have to be registered to participate in them. I thought I would put it out there and see. Thanks for participating. My 48" steal rule has the circumference info on the back you're referring too. |

| The circumference info on my Lufkin in on the front side , the back side has some conversion charst on it. It's the only steel rule i've owned so i don't have much to compare to but i'm very happy with it. |

| I've never had anything but a malco in 20+ years, but if you put two together, you will notice that they are not perfectly straight. It has never been an issue in HVAC work though. It has always been anoying, but I think I am just obsessing about it. |

Malco is the best i think your gonna get these days. Malco circumference rules are to the tee exact in every way. If you take a standard square from any manufacturer and square up metal, almost any sheet you get will be off square about a 1/4" at about 8 feet. The best way to go is to square up your sheet prior to fabricating with either a sheer or a good set of machinist tools. It's hard to judge the quality of a rule unless the piece you are working with is true.

| I use Lufkin, love it. McMaster Carr has it for around $60 I believe. |
