I would appreciate tips on how to produce a frustrum on slip rolls. The frustrum has a base diameter of about 4 feet and a top diameter of about 3 feet.

One side of the slip rolls is adjusted tighter than the other to compensate for the different circumferences. Try to roll it so the vertical dimension is perpendicular to the rolls, this will keep the ends of the part flat, square and parallel to each other. Try it with something smaller in scale and you will understand.

It does not take much of a difference in adjustment.

You can make your self two separate quarter templates, one at a radius of 18 inches and one at a radius of 24 inches. You’ll have to set the rear roller at one end so that it is closer to front (lower) roller then the other, you’re going to have to tweak this to the correct distance by practicing on scrap and using your ¼ template.

There is a good article in the library on slip roll machines.

Good luck and let us know how it worked out for you.

What gage metal & what height ? A light ga. metal might not require roll forming. The larger end is 12.56 ft. in circumference.

The material to be formed into the frustrum is expanded metal C 1/2 16 F.
