I have been browsing this site for about a month, and I think it's incredible.
I've been in the trade for 28 years and I'm still learning. The library has been
helpful already. I think I can contribute to this site and share (trade)
information with everyone. Not many tradesmen in Canada, especially
in my area. We are a dying breed.

Hello tinbanger! What's happening here,(just west of Ottawa) is the Ministry of Labour
is really cracking down on the sheet metal trade. They are rooting out all the guys
working in the trade without a license, and there are many. The suppliers will sell
sheet metal to anyone, so there are many small HVAC companies that do their own
tin, they just order it from the supplier (including custom ductwork).
Also, there are a few townships in the area that now require a homeowner to have
a form filled out and signed by a licensed sheet metal worker before a building
permit can be issued.

The Ministry hasn't done much here, Sault Ste Marie, But there is inspections on the duct work now. It's a joke to watch a building inspector walking around with a measuring tape checking the hanger lengths. But at least it's something. I went in the field last Friday to clean up another "Sheet Metal" guy's butcher job. What a mess. It took 2 of us 8 hrs. to rip out and reinstall a new HRV System. Unbelievable.
