Hi guys! Im new to the forums but not to the industry. I have been thinking about checking into a cnc plasma table for HVAC duct fabrication. The business opened in the late 50's (1959) I took over the HVAC portion (we do plumbing, HVAC and fire sprinklers) of the business about 10 years ago. We basically still have an old fashon shop doing hand layouts. The thing is business around here is very competitive and comes in spurts, from slow as heck to swamped.
Looking at various websites checkingout different CNC plasma tables but it is really hard to get a realistic investment cost to getting started with a plasma setup. For those who have one what is an approximate setup cost to get completely going? including tables, plasma cutter, gantry, software etc etc? |

Plasma systems run around 44k. The hidden costs associated with the initial set up are... compressed air, exhaust fan & duct, power and ground rod drop, freight, and plasma consumables. You can estimate 50k for everything. You also have to look at the down the road costs... some manufacturers charge for phone support after the first year, so educate yourself. Also, there are a lot of new manufacturers popping up everyday, so look for some established companies to do business with... Advance Cutting Sys., Lockformer, Vicon, etc. Look at controllers, hardware, software and plasma because they all work together and pick the one that best fit you now and 10 years from now!
There is a BIG difference between and hobbyist and commercial plasma cutting system, so do your homework there also!
On a financial note... the gov't has a lot of great tax incentives (sect. 179) to stimulate the economy... great time to buy!
If you have any questions, please call me. l'll help you anyway I can!!!

| Compressed air is no problem, I already have the compressor. Also exhaust and power should not be a problem. I see a lot of post about advance cutting systems which seem to be favorable. Ill give them a call and see what they say. |
