| i just purchased a used 20 ga lockformer machine with pitts lock, acme lock, and a power edger on top. my question is in regards to the four adjustment bolts on top, two are in the middle and two are off to the acme roll side, i assume the bolts put tension downward so the rolls can grab the metal. How do you adjust them properly? |

Drizz,
Here are the adjustment procdures that you asked for:
5/8" Hold-down bolts
Fully tighten the bolts, then loosen 3/4 turn each.
3/8 Hold-down studs
Fully tighten stud nuts, then loosen 1/2 turn each.
Also, it is important that you have the correct amount and proper orientation of the belleville spring washers.
Good luck.
Chad. |

| thank you, thats what i needed. the belleville spring washers i believe are in the right order, 6 of them on the 3/8 and 4 on the 5/8. they are positioned on the shafts in a hourglass shape for lack of a better word. The reason i asked is when i run a duct threw the machine the hammer over edge on the first and last two inche of the lock are always a little wider than the rest of the lock. hopefully this will cure it. |

Drizz,
You wouldn't happen to run your material through a slitter? If so, this may explain why your fold over flange isn't the same length, the slitter is not cutting square.

| no slitter, it doesnt happen on my small morlin pitts machine, but like i said the first and last inch or two of pitts is wider than the rest of the run. i have tried putting the feed rails in different positions but that only affects the angle of the whole lock from one end to the other. |

Interesting, I have the same machine and I think maybe the same issue - It's been awhile since I used it, but the next few days I'll run a piece through to see what the issue really was...I do know that it didn't make to much of a difference - however at times I could start out with a absolute square piece of steel and I'd fight to keep it square as the fitting was put together.
Issues we had with the slitter were only if the piece wasn't held firmly and if it got away from you at all than you were in trouble anyway |

I just assumed that was what happens when it gets to the end of the run. The malformity is exactly the length between the two lead rollers.
If you get a fix, please share. |
