wasnt sure what section to post this in,do we even have a design section in our forum? anyway i am stumped, 15 tanning booths in a row that produce a lot of heat. thinking best to vent them out before the hot air mixes with cooled air,but how? theres a lot math here!

drizz1234............I've vented two..one, a horizontal and one, a verticle.
Both had on board fans.Verticle vented straight up thru the roof.
Horizontal thru the wall. Do yours have fans??If not,you might consider a single exhaust fan with an exhaust grille above each bed and a dedicated a/c w/enough m/u air to replace what you're exhausting....

yes they all have 1400 cfm fans on them,we cant vent individually because four stories above so we need a common exhaust system. One of my problems is all the booths are sometimes on and other times maybe just a few on, 15 booths at 1400 cfm each equals a combined cfm of 21000,way to big a fan for the type of project and would be oversized if only one unit is on. my idea now is to have them all vent into a oversized duct to a fan that can pull enough air to make a negative pressure in the duct and the booth fans can push the air threw the duct. i hope. any ideas?

drizz1234........A a static pressure of .08 you would need a 45"round or 40x40 sq. duct if all fans are running. If all are running with no make up air and your doors open out you'll never open them!!If you did open a standard size door you would be moving air thru it @ about 1100 FPM. If you are going up 4 stories will you require fire dampers at each floor?? Sounds like a project to me. You might consider 3 ducts with 5 beds each and no external fans. Wye them together and you may get no back-feed.
Good luck to ya! bordontn2

are the tanning booths located in a very large area with access to an external wall with windows, is there a large area between the top of the booths to the underside of the ceiling, do the booths have doors and a ceiling, exterior to the booths is there conditioned air, if so rely on the large area above the tanning booths to act as a plenum, (hot air rises) then if possible extract fan in either window or any exterior wall to discharge hot air to atmosphere, bearing in mind to have either transfer grilles and/or free area bottom of doors, hopefully the hot air extracted and make up air via transfer grilles, if no way to external wall or window, an internal riser, but as already mentioned fire dampers, builders work, very expensive, have you considered similar to boiler room ventilation ? rely not on extract but fresh air supply to low level, but still to run existing exract fans
