Hello everyone! New to this so bare with me!! I have read through some of the posts regarding plasma tables. I myself am in the shopping mode and have found a lockformer vulcan 2900. Which, according to the salesman (hehehe) is the best there is. I have to buy used because there is no way can I afford $58000 for a new one! I have heard that these machines have a rather long life and the new in 1998 machine that I am looking at should last another 10 to 15 years easy. SO........what I would like to have is a list of manufacturers and models of good reliable machinery.... with good support. Any comments on the Vulcan? $5700 to renew the software seems steep. This machine is priced in the mid $20's. I also thought that the machine could double duty in possible slow times producing signs and the like. Pipe dream???? I'm just fishing for ideas. Thanks everybody!

Vulcan makes a decent table, not familiar with the model you state. I wouldn't rush into a purchase. There are a lot of options. There was a used table on the ShopPass Classifieds a while back.
Also remember just because you purchase a Vulcan table you don't have to use their software.
I would google for used plasma tables there are a lot of equipment buyers that have used tables for sale. Ebay has several at this time.
Also check with Advanced Cutting Systems (ACS) in Alabama. They make a nice table and have their own software available.
Do your homework so you don't have second thoughts later.

Thank you tnbndr!

We have new systems starting $38,900 and up...depending on software and plasma. Definitely do your homework if you are buying used... most manufactures charge a relicensing/renew fee and some charge for phone support on a yearly basis. A lot of manufactures have proprietary software or controllers, which means you are stuck with them for life!
I recommend that you have someone from the factory install your system and ask them the history of the system you are looking at.
A lot of customer lease their plasma systems which makes new systems more affordable
I can be of help, please let me know!

Thanks,
Clinton Ray

There is a listing on www.ShopPass.com/commercial that I just approved for the DuctMaster Plasmatable - Talk to Micah Jennings at Automated Products.

Here is the link...

Thanks Micah for using the classifieds - it's appreciated very much that if you have something to sell - you do it through the classifieds, but what ever works for you all:)

You're very welcome - I'll always do what I can do on my end to help those who support us! It's that simple. Now we have a more powerfull server at RackSpace to handle the loads and (the famous library) that's eating up the bandwidth and what I like most is the "Instant Monitoring Service" I don't mind paying for this service, it's been supported by our sponsor Tennsmith, CD sales and revenue with Google ads and most importantly from our friends and guest that make it what it is...sorry, I can't say it enough, thanks!

Life is good here at the shop!

If you have never used one before, I would make sure whatever brand you get has some tech support. Ours was put in new by the factory rep and a couple of us were trained for a couple of days using it. We told him what our shop standards were and he showed us how to enter them in, so as we needed to add new ones we would know how and why. We have free phone tech help and I have NEVER been on hold(Bonus!). We use Plasma Automation's Vicon table and software. http://www.plasma-automation.com/MOD800hvac.html
It is the only table I have ever used so I'm not much help in comparing them. I'll be at the AHR Expo in Dallas in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll get a chance to compare tables then...

Hey, Leadhead nice plug for Plasma - Automation, thanks! It's always good to hear good things. You said it right, service is a big chunk of the product - Enjoy the AHR show, I have to wait until 2009 again Sad It comes to Chicago every three years...I did try to contact Plasma - Automation a couple of times, once I got no response and recently the email bounced back undeliverable?

New guy here too, although I've lurked a few times.

We had a Vulcan 2900 in our shop before we, just recently, merged with another mechanical company. I ran it for six years. We never upgraded from the OS/2 software, but it still served our purpose. Only had one problem the whole time. Great machine.

Since we merged, the company is going to purchase one for our shop. I was dead set on a Vulcan 1000B, since I ran a Lockformer before. Then I started talking with a sales rep for Vicon. He set up an online meeting to show me the software that's used on the machine. Pretty neat. So I then decided on a Vicon. Well, after talking with the Lockformer rep., once again I don't know which to go with. So this Wednesday I'm going to see a newer 1000B in action and on Friday I'm going to see a new Vicon in action. I'm sure after this I'll be able to decide which machine they should purchase. I should have went to see each machine in person from the beginning.

Maybe you should do the same. After all, whether it's new or used, they're expensive and you don't want to be stuck with something you'll come to dislike.

I'm going to take some pictures and get all the information I can on each machine. I can post the info and pics up next weekend if you'd like.

S2R... I'd love to see a side by side comparison. As I said, I have not used anything but the Vicon software but if you need an "untainted" opinion about it, I can e-mail you my number. Keep in mind though, my shop is small.

Lead, I'd definitely like to get your opinion on the Vicon. The Vicon sales rep gave me two references which I contacted to get their opinion. Which is exactly what I wanted. Opinions on both machines from those who use them. I've talked with sales reps for hours, but seeing the newer products will be very beneficial. Not to mention talking with those who actually use the machines and software. Shoot me an email.

We will be a small shop also. Just making the fittings and duct for our own work.
