Hi, I am new to working with ducting. I am in the process of replacing my range hood in my kitchen. The old range hood was connected to a vertical 3.25” x 10” duct that is installed up through the kitchen cabinet against the wall. The new range hood has the same size opening with a connecting piece for the duct but is offset away from the wall approximately 3 inches. The vertical duct is long enough I can probably pull it away from the wall without bending it and insert it into the connecting piece. But I worry because this will not sit squarely and will not have a proper seal at this connection causing air leakage. My question is what is the best way to connect these two ducts or is what I was thinking of doing sufficient for this application?

Can you cut a few inches off the existing duct in place? If you can cut at least 6" off the existing duct and then connect it to the hood with a 3" offset.
